"The Black Rider flung back his hood, and behold! he had a kingly crown; and yet upon no head visible was it set. The red fires shone between it and the mantled shoulders vast and dark. From a mouth unseen there came a deadly laughter. 'Old fool!' he said 'Old fool! This is my hour. Do you not know Death when you see it? Die now and curse in vain!' And with that he lifted high his sword and flames ran down the blade."
From The Lord of the Rings

In the Gondor scenario the Shadow player must use the forces of Sauron to conquer the White City of Minas Tirith. At the Shadow's command are Orcs, Black Uruks, Olog Hais, Easterlings, Southrons, and the towering Mûmakil. Summoned by the call of Sauron the Great. All lead by The Witch King of Angmar, Lord of the Nazgûl.

Against the massed ranks of Mordor stands the brave and strong warriors of Minas Tirith, footmen, archers and cavalry, summoned to the White City in preparation for the inevitable assault of the Shadow. Led by Gandalf the White they prepare for the onslaught.

From the Outlands reinforcements are coming under the leadership of Imrahil the Fair, Prince of Dol Amroth. From the north the host of the Rohirrim is coming, answering the call for aid sent out by Denethor, Steward of Gondor. In North Ithilien Faramir leads his rangers in constant raids on the forces of the Shadow, and maybe a lost King will come to the aid of the city rightfully his to lead.

As the game begins Sauron has not yet began the attack on Osgiliath and the Darkness sent out from Mordor is covering all of the lands between Minas Tirith and Minas Morgul. With the aid of the Darkness Sauron can advance in a steady pace and using the fear of his enemies to great advantage.

Shall the Free Peoples player reinforce the outer defenses of Osgiliath and Cair Andros or should they wait behind the Rammas Echor or even withdraw behind the outer walls of the city? Will Imrahil arrive in time to reinforce the City or will he need to fight his way through to the Great Gate? When will the army of Rohan arrive and how will they deploy their forces to best counter the threat of the Shadow armies?
