"The darkness was breaking too soon, before the date that his Master had set for it: fortune had betrayed him for the moment, and the world had turned against him; victory was slipping from his grasp even as he strethced out his hand to seize it. But his arm was long. He was still in command, wielding great powers. King, Ringwraith, Lord of the Nazgûl, he had many weapons."
From The Lord of the Rings

The Battles of the Third Age is an expansion to the War of the Ring boardgame, a grand-strategic simulation of Tolkien’s “THE LORD OF THE RINGS” trilogy.

In this expansion you will find everything you need to both add to the experience of the main "War of the Ring" game as well as to fight the Battle for Rohan and the Battle for Gondor. The expansion will introduce new units and characters to the main game as well as give you an even greater immersion into the world of J.R.R. Tolkien.

For the main game the expansion adds Galadriel, The Balrog, Sméagol and The Witch King, Chief of the Ringwraiths to the cast of characters and also allows you to use the Corsairs of Umbar, the Hillmen of Dunland and the Ents of Fangorn in deeper more strategic ways than the main game did. It will also let the Shadow player use Siege towers in the assaults on the Strongholds of the Free Peoples and the Free Peoples will be able to use defensive siege weapons to repel the attackers.

In additon to all the new units and characters there are also completely new Event cards and new versions of some of the old cards to go along with the new versions of the Corsairs, Hillmen and Ents.

The new game will allow you to fight the Battles for Rohan and Gondor, and here you will use the miniatures from the main game as well as all of the miniatures from the expansion. In these scenarios the players will be given greater tactical options. The terrain in which the battle is fought is of importance and each unit in the game comes with a special ability it can use in combat and here the tactical minds of the players will be pitted against each other. Naturally all the charactres from the books will be in the scenarios in one way or another. Gríma, Gandalf, Faramir, Éomer and Gothmog, are all there, for you to command.
